While it's a strategy that has been around for decades, the Paranormal Activity franchise has made great use of the audience reaction trailer. Each film thus far has had at least one preview that would replace footage from the actual movie with just footage of people screaming and shrieking at early screenings. It's helped make the last three movies become blockbuster hits and now it's Paranormal Activity 4's turn.
Paramount has released the official audience reaction trailer for the new horror movie and you can watch it below.
I must admit that I find these trailers to be kind of funny. I don't personally care much for the franchise - I can't help but be bored by 90 minutes of doors closing by themselves - but it's crazy how over the top the fans are while watching the movie. I do wonder if at least some of the people are just acting scared so that they can be in the movie's marketing, but I'm going to stop being a cynic for a minute and just hope that it's a bunch of people enjoying their film-going experience.
Set five years after the events of the first two films, Paranormal Activity 4 follows a new heroine, Alice (Kathryn Newton), whose family gets a new strange new neighbor: Katie (Katie Featherston). Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who helmed Paranormal Activity 3, are directing this one as well from a script written by Christopher Landon. Look for the movie in theaters on October 19th and head over to our Blend Film Database to see trailers, stills and more.
