The Pink Panther Procreates

What happens when a rehash of a popular movie tops the box office on opening weekend with $21.7 million? Well, naturally, more will follow—whether we like it or not.

MovieHole reports that MGM may be veering ahead with a second Pink Panther movie, with Steve Martin returning as Inspector Clouseau. He has hit it big with family fare like Cheaper By The Dozen and Bringing Down The House, so it makes sense that he doesn’t want to go too far away from his safety zone. He did with Shopgirl, and that didn’t do much to expand his wallet.

The first sequel in the original Panther series is A Shot In The Dark. In that story, Clouseau is hunting for a killer and pisses off his boss when he won’t consider the beautiful maid Maria as a prime suspect. It’s likely that the sequel will follow this storyline, but there are no definite plans laid out as of yet. No word yet on if one of the other members of Destiny's Child will try and woo Martin this time around.
