At one point we were expecting a new trailer for Total Recall to come online this past weekend on the 11th-- but with that day come and gone, we had pretty much given up. Now a mysteriously cut-together teaser, containing a lot of footage screened at Comic Con, has shown up on YouTube, appearing to be something like a 30-second teaser for the upcoming trailer, but with title cards in a font and second language that makes it all seem… well, very mysterious. But this is definitely footage from the movie-- and the first footage we've seen from the movie at all-- so take a look even as we puzzle this through.
As you probably know by now, Total Recall is a remake of 1990 Paul Verhoeven film, this time starring Colin Farrell as the man who goes into a service that will implant a fake memory, but winds up in a lot more trouble than he expected. Actually, why don't we let the official synopsis clear things up from there:
Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he's got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life - real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.
The film, directed by Len Wiseman, won't be traveling to Mars like the original film did, but at least he's confirmed that three-breasted woman will appear again, so maybe the fans will like that news better. It's a little strange that we haven't yet seen a full, official trailer for Total Recall, given that it's coming up quickly on an August 3 release date, but hopefully this odd snippet is just an early glimpse at the killer trailer to come. Do you like what you see so far?
