Following up on the release of the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes a report that the highly anticipated sci-fi film is planning to show another trailer -- possibly, the next -- before Avengers: Age of Ultron. As if we needed another reason to head to the theater next May!
This report comes to us courtesy of /Film, and states that they're told another trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII will be attached to Avengers: Age of Ultron, which arrives in theaters May 1, 2015. Whether it'll be the next trailer to arrive and/or a full trailer is unconfirmed. It's possible that Disney will be content to let the buzz following the recent teaser play out between now and the Spring, after which they'll reignite our appetites with another look at the hugely anticipated Star Wars installment. But it's also possible that the 88 seconds of Star Wars: The Force Awakens released last week is just the start of many more seconds to come in the coming weeks and months. That remains to be seen.
In the meantime, a trailer before the Avengers sequel seems fitting enough to be easily believable, given the massive hype surrounding both films, not to mention the Marvel/Disney connection, and the likelihood of a significant overlap in the audience.
As for what we have to go on now, the previously released teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the buzz surrounding it seems like a fair reflection of the way fans celebrate and anticipate movies in this day and age, especially by comparison to the earlier Star Wars films. When sharing his reaction to the new Episode VII trailer, Kevin Smith did a pretty great job of describing the days when you had to go to the theater to see a trailer, before the internet was an option.
The internet can't entirely replace the thrill of seeing a trailer for the first time on the big screen, especially when you factor in the added buzz of being surrounded by people who are just as excited to feast their eyes on a new glimpse of an anticipated movie. But in its own way, the internet expands that audience to a global level, allowing us to enjoy a trailer over and over again in as many ways as the human race can creatively muster, create and share. Case in point, all of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens fan-made parodies and mashups we've seen pop up since last week. That includes at least one Lego version, a Disney-fied version and of course, the Special Edition.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will arrive in theaters December 18, 2015. If you haven't seen it enough times already, check out the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer in all its 88 seconds of glory next...
