With Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams will introducing a host of new characters to the lexicon of the sci-fi saga - but the actual identities of these characters have been kept under lock and key. Sure, we got our first look at some of them in the trailer that debuted over Thanksgiving, but what are their names? That information is now leaking out... and in trading card form, no less.
As you can see above, it's been officially revealed that Oscar Isaac's X-Wing pilot character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be named Poe Dameron - but that's only one of the identities that have come to light. Entertainment Weekly has published a series of mock trading cards directly from J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy highlighting various parts of the Episode VII teaser trailer, and in doing so they have not only provided Iscaac's character's moniker, but also those being played by John Boyega and Daisy Ridley. As you can see below, we will hence forth be referring to the former as Finn:
And the latter will from now on be identifiable as Rey (not Kira, as was once rumored)
But that's not all! While there's no mention of the actor who is playing him, the shadowy figure with the red lightsaber is evidently a guy named Kylo Ren:
And the so-called "ball droid" (modeled after early versions of R2-D2) is actually called BB-8:
Sadly, we still don't have any real, official information about who any of these characters actually are, but the truth is that we have more than a year of marketing to look forward to that will likely end up giving us way more information about Star Wars: The Force Awakens than we actually want to know. For now, though, what do you think of these character names?
