Following the prequels, you'd think that the Star Wars franchise might move away from telling more origin stories about original trilogy characters, but if the ever-swirling rumors that have been coming out over the last few months are accurate, that won't be the case: we've been hearing plenty of stories recently suggesting that one of the Star Wars spin-off films in the works is about a young Han Solo. But who would play the younger version of the rogue space smuggler? According to recent reports, it could be Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton.
Given that this story comes to us from The Sun, one might be wise to hesitate before immediately calling this story fact - but their sources have evidently told them that Taron Egerton is being considered as a possible candidate to play a young Han Solo in an upcoming Star Wars spin-off movie. He is the latest name to be brought up as being potentially in contention for the role, with Aaron Paul having previously been mentioned as being linked to the gig (though the Breaking Bad star has denied the story).
In addition to pitching the story about Taron Egerton possibly being up for the young Han Solo part, The Sun also claims to have details about what we can expect to see in the Star Wars spin-off film, including how the legendary character first acquired his legendary ship, the Millennium Falcon, and how his relationship soured with the vicious gangster Jabba The Hut. This doesn't quite sync up with other rumors we've heard about the first spin-off movie (from more reputable sources), which have said that the Gareth Edwards-directed project would be about the mission to steal the plans for the original Death Star. That being said, there are two other non-Saga Star Wars movies also currently in the works at Disney and Lucasfilm - one of which will be directed by The Fantastic Four's Josh Trank.
At the age of 25, Taron Egerton is only just now starting to make a big splash on the big screen, with Kingsman: The Secret Service doing quite well in theaters despite being in direct competition with Fifty Shades of Grey. Given this box office success, as well as the positive remarks Egerton's performance earned from critics, it was only a matter of time before his name started finding its way into shortlists for major upcoming projects - he was also reportedly in the mix for a while to play young Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse - but is he right right fit to play a young Han Solo in a Star Wars spin-off movie?
