It seems unlikely, to me at least, that we’ll see another Terminator movie any time soon. Salvation wasn’t exactly well received and while it made money, it didn’t really make as much money as Warner Bros. probably hoped it would. But if someone does eventually pull the sequel on another one, then we may have some idea of where they’re going with it.

A site called Bleeding Cool has posted a rumor claiming that Terminator 5 will be set in London, in the year 2011. This actually fits in pretty well with some of what McG has had to say about the possibility of another sequel. Back in May he told Film Journal that the next movie would take place pre-judgement day. Said McG: “John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome. I also think he's going to meet a scientist that's going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves.”

So the only really new thing here is that those hunter killers McG is talking about might be fighting under the shadow of Big Ben. While that sounds pretty awesome, remember that Terminator Salvation also sounded pretty awesome, and then we all saw it. Besides, assuming someone really did want to throw more money down the increasingly less profitable Terminator money pit, I seriously doubt they’d entrust the next movie to McG and his track record of habitual disappointment.
