It was originally Jai Courtney, Boyd Holbrook, Wilson Bethel, Sam Reid and newcomer Tom Cocquerel who were up for the role of Kyle Reese in the upcoming Terminator: Genesis, but today that list has apparently been culled to just two names. Deadline's sources have informed them that the coveted role will likely now either go to Courtney or Holbrook.

Last month all of the actors mentioned in the paragraph above went in to test for the legendary sci-fi role, which was initially played by Michael Biehn in James Cameron's first two Terminator films and then by Anton Yelchin in McG's Terminator Salvation. The character also appeared on the short-lived television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles played by Jonathan Jackson. According to the latest report, whoever winds up landing the role in Genesis will end up starring in at least two movies.

Whoever winds up getting the part will join both Emilia Clarke and Jason Clarke in the film, the actors playing Sarah Connor and John Connor, respectively, as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger (who is returning in an unspecified role). Alan Taylor, who is best known for his work on HBO's Game of Thrones and is just coming off directing Thor: The Dark World, is helming the movie with a script written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier. Paramount Pictures and Skydance will be financing and producing the film together, having previously paired up for big blockbusters like Mission: Impossible, Star Trek and World War Z. Production is scheduled to begin in late April down in New Orleans to get the movie ready for its July 1, 2015 release date.

Courtney and Holbrook are both up-and-comers who have come up through TV to start getting more film work. The former was first known for playing Varro on the Starz sword and sandals series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, and has since been starring in big films like Jack Reacher, A Good Day To Die Hard, and the upcoming Divergent. While Holbrook's first appearence came as a small role in Gus Van Sant's Milk, he started getting attention appearing on the Showtime series The Big C opposite Laura Linney and Hatfields & McCoys with Kevin Costner. He has multiple projects coming up, including Scott Frank's A Walk Among The Tombstones with Liam Neeson, Jaume Collet-Serra's Run All Night, also with Liam Neeson, and David Fincher's Gone Girl with Ben Affleck.

When we last ran a poll asking who among the candidates for the Kyle Reese role you wanted to see, Courtney was the definite favorite, but has your opinion changed since? Answer our new poll below and tell us what you think in the comments section.
