Trailer Trash: Wall-E, 3:10 To Yuma, August Rush

When trailers fall in between Cinema Blend’s couch cushions, they eventually get vacuumed up and deposited here in Trailer Trash. Today's bag of Trailer Trash contains four future viewing possibilities, and one piece of classic trash.

Wall-E – first teaser

The next movie from Pixar is Wall-E, and it may be their most ambitious film to date. Rumor has it that much of the movie will be completely silent, and some of it may in fact be based on a silent Charlie Chaplin movie. WALL-E stands for Waste Allocation Load Lifters -- Earth Class, and the film is about a future in which Earth has become so overrun by trash that it’s uninhabitable for humans. 700 years before the movie takes place, the entire human race lives in an orbiting space ship, and sends robots down to the planet to clean it up. Flash to the present, and the project has failed. Only one robot is left on Earth still at work cleaning the place, and his name is WALL-E. The movie’s first trailer starts with a great introduction by its director, setting the movie’s place in Pixar history.

3:10 to Yuma – first trailer

Based on a short story by Elmore Leonard, 3:10 to Yuma is a western set in late 1800s Arizona. Russell Crowe plays recently captured, vicious outlaw Ben Wade. Civil War veteran Dan Evans (Christian Bale), struggling to survive on his drought-plagued ranch, volunteers to deliver him alive to the 3:10 train to Yuam to take murderous Wade to trial. But Wade’s outfit is on their trail – and dangers at every turn – the mission soon becomes a violent, impossible journey toward each man's destiny. The material it’s based on is a very short, story, leaving plenty of room for the film to add in around the edges. Changes already evident in the trailer include a female character who’s not in the book, and a lot more cute kid. But Russell Crowe is a born bad guy, and I can’t wait to see him face off against Batman.

August Rush – first trailer

August Rush is a high-concept, romance/drama about the child of two musical prodigies, Louis and Lyla, who spend one last night together before they part for ten years. The encounter produces a child, August (Highmore), and the movie focuses on the young boy, and his magical quest to unite his family. A mysterious wizard played by Robin Williams aids August on his journey. The trailer looks a lot better than the plot synopsis sounds, and music rather than magic and melodrama seems to be the central theme to the story.

30 Days of Night – first trailer

Sam Raimi may be too busy swinging around with Spider-Man to direct horror movies anymore, but that doesn’t mean he’s too busy to put his stamp of approval on the work of others. 30 Days of Night is set in the isolated town of Barrow, Alaska, in the extreme northern hemisphere, which is plunged into complete darkness annually for an entire month. When most of the inhabitants head south for the winter, a mysterious group of strangers appear: bloodthirsty vampires, ready to take advantage of the uninterrupted darkness to feed on the town’s residents. As the night wears on, Barrow's Sheriff Eben (Josh Hartnett), his estranged wife Stella (Melissa George), and an ever-shrinking group of survivors must do anything they can to last until daylight.
