Vacancy Director Is Armored

Director Nimrod Antal gets introduced to American audiences tomorrow with his new horror thriller Vacancy. Before it has a chance to sink or swim though, he’s already lined up another big project. As any ‘Entourage’ fan will tell you, it’s always wise to line up your next project before your latest movie opens… just in case it flops. Thanks Ari!

Antal’s next movie will be something called Armored for Sony’s Screen Gems division. The script by James V. Simpson is about an armored truck driver who is persuaded to steal the $10 million he has in the back of his vehicle.

If you’re looking for a reason to care about this project, then here’s one: Antal’s work in Vacancy is nothing short of fantastic. The script is fairly mediocre, the acting is only adequate, but Antal’s work behind the camera lifts the movie beyond ho-hum into something pretty cool. It’s not just the look of the film (which is fresh and interesting), it’s the choices he makes. Antal makes Vacancy really work, and if he can do that with an otherwise blah thriller then I’d love to see him get his hands on a decent script. Of course we don’t know if this is a decent script, but even if it isn’t I’m interested to see what the guy does next. You should be too.
