WGA Nominees

A Writer Writes

The Writer’s Guild of America announced the nominees for their annual awards today, notably straying from the nominees other organizations have given credit to in the last week. Instead of hitting the bigger pictures which have received nominations for acting and direction, the WGA paid more attention to the smaller and independent films.

WGA Award Nominees

Adapted Writing

Before Sunset Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawke, Richard Linklater (story by Linklater and Kim Krizan)

Mean Girls Tina Fey

Million Dollar Baby Paul Haggis

The Motorcycle Diaries Jose Rivera

Sideways Alexander Payne, Jim Taylor

Original Writing

The Aviator John Logan

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Charlie Kaufman (story by Kaufman, Michael Gondry, Pierre Bismuth)

Garden State Zach Braff

Hotel Rwanda Terry George

Kinsey Bill Condon

It’s nice to finally see some recognition for some of the films I loved this year that have been overlooked by numerous other awards thus far this year. Personal favorites include Tina Fey and Zach Braff, who both really deserve some recognition for their respective movies.

The WGA Winners will be announced February 19th.
