Well, Ryan Hansen sure does know how to make an announcement. Since he appeared in the original video for the Veronica Mars movie Kickstarter campaign, we sort of figured there was a good chance Hansen would be on board to appear in the film, reprising his role as the lovably douchey Dick Casablancas, however his casting had not yet officially been announced. In a way, it's sort of a good thing that his casting announcement came after fifteen others, as Hansen's video sets the bar pretty high. I'm not sure any other casting that follows will be able to top what he's done here.
Hansen's video begins with a heartfelt monologue about how excited he is to get to be a part of the movie, and leads into a thrilling choreographed dance routine that reminds us that Dick likes to party. And with dance moves like those, I'm now sort of hoping for a full on She's All that-like choreographed dance number at the planned Neptune High reunion. It could happen, right? Go Pirates.
Since Veronica Mars finished up, Ryan Hansen went on to star in Party Down and the short-lived comedy Friends with Benefits. He also sported a Tribe Called Quest t-shirt for his brief appearance in Key and Peele, and recurred as Andy on 2 Broke Girls. This casting news, which was confirmed by Rob Thomas on the Kickstarter page tonight, comes a little while after we heard confirmation that Krysten Ritter was signed on to reprise her role as Gia in the planned movie, which is just finishing up pre-production. They join stars Kristen Bell, Enrico Colantoni, Jason Dohring and a number of other returners set to reprise roles in the film. The movie will start shooting in a couple of days, and we can now celebrate the fact that Dick is back on board.
