Weekend Box Office

Huge weekend this weekend. The Day After Tomorrow garners the 8th biggest opening in May, 13th of all time.....yet it wasn’t number 1 this weekend. Shrek and his gang topped again, though barely. The two flicks split the box office right down the middle in a huge way. Both took an insane amount of loot, though Shrek 2 inched it’s way forward with a few more bills. Much Like how Barry Bonds topped Mark Maguire's 70 single season home run record a couple of years ago by matching it and adding 3 of his own. Last year end of July/early August the top 3 flicks each took in plus or minus $30 Million. Two flicks with $70 mill is just freakin’ insane.

This weeks other releases fell victim to not being special effects romps taking the number 4 and 5 spots on the countdown. Mean Girls still holding on tightly and for the second consecutive week Super Size Me seems to have tattooed itself to the number 10 slot. Next week Month two of the Summer Blockbuster Phenomenon begins. How much of a dent will mystical English children make after this week’s insanity? Who knows. But think of it this way, those flicks are greasing are wallets for when Peter Parker gets his freak on. Anyways....here’s this week’s top ten.
