In addition to being the co-creator of many of Marvel’s most famous heroes and villains, comic book legend Stan Lee has made a name for himself as a cameo master. Lee holds no shortage of enthusiasm for each role he plays, but something’s different about his brief appearance next year in X-Men: Apocalypse. This past July at San Diego Comic-Con, he revealed that this cameo will be unique compared to his previous ones, and now we know why: it involves someone he cares about.

During his interview with Larry King (who he was mistaken for in Iron Man 2), Lee let it drop that his X-Men: Apocalypse cameo will have him sharing screen time with someone who means a lot to him. Lee said:
That cameo is different than any I have ever done before, because I did it with another person that is very important to me.

Unfortunately for King and the rest of us, Lee didn’t elaborate on the identity of this other person, saying we’ll have to see the movie to find out. So the big question is who this other person? Is it an actor that he’s fond of? I could certainly see Lee being a huge fan of someone like Olivia Munn or Michael Fassbender. Conversely, maybe it’s someone he’s close with in his personal life, be it his wife, his daughter, a colleague, or the person that cuts his hair. Perhaps he'll get to share the screen with a favorite character. Also, what will these two being doing together? Lee’s cameos are frequently blink-and-you-miss-it material, so don’t expect anything crucial to the plot. Still, if we’re lucky, maybe Lee and this other person will be mutants and get to briefly show off cool abilities. That would certainly grab everyone’s attention.

Although Lee has appeared every Marvel Studios film to date, his appearances in the Fox Marvel movies have been less frequent. Those cameos include playing a hot dog vendor in X-Men, a guy watering his lawn in X-Men: The Last Stand, a mailman in 2005’s Fantastic Four, and a guy trying to get into Reed Richards and Sue Storm’s wedding in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. His other cameos next year include playing a strip club MC in Deadpool and a still-unrevealed role in Captain America: Civil War.

We’ll see Lee’s mystery cameo is when X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
