Witch Mountain Director Sticking With Teens

Andy Fickman has been spending a lot of time making it rain, with Race to Witch Mountain a hit at the box office and all kinds of options for what he'll direct next. Disney already picked him to direct Monster Attack Network, and now Paramount has their sights set on him as well, to direct an adaptation of the young adult novel Gimme a Call.

Fickman himself describes the book as a mix between John Hughes movies and Back to the Future in Variety, and said he's interested in the project beacuse he has an 11-year-old daughter. The book is about a high school senior whose cell phone breaks, and suddenly can call no one but herself at age 14. As Fickman said, "Who wouldn't want to call their earlier selves, even if just to remind them their yearbook photo will be making people laugh for the rest of their lives, and they should get a haircut or at least spend five minutes making sure they look good."

It sounds like a potentially fresh twist on the Freaky Friday model of fantasy, and with the right tween star (i.e., not Miley Cyrus) could really be enjoyable. Fickman's proven he has a gift with family-friendly comedies, and now he seems determined not to waste it.
