Why Zoe Saldana Probably Didn't Spoil The Avengers 4 Title
One of the biggest questions about the Marvel Cinematic Universe has nothing to do with a plot and everything to do with a title. Specifically the title of Avengers 4. Now, a recent comment by Zoe Saldana has people wondering if she's actually revealed what the film is called. In a recent interview for next week's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Saldana was talking about the shooting schedule for the next two Avengers movies. She said the Guardians crew had finished shooting their part for Infinity War, but then said they all will have to go back for "Gauntlet." This has led folks to wonder if the movie is called Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet, in reference to the object Thanos is chasing after. The problem is, that's not exactly a spoiler.
Recently, our own Eric Eisenberg got to sit down with Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige, and Feige told him that the reason the title of Avengers 4 had not been released was that it was actually a spoiler. More than likely the title refers to events that happen in Avengers: Infinity War and if we knew the name of the next movie, we'd know what happens in that movie. Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet isn't exactly spoiler-y. While we don't know exactly what the story of the two Avengers films will be, the fact that the two movies were previously being called Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 certainly led us to believe that the Infinity Gauntlet would be an important part of both stories, so naming the second film after it would not be much of a shock.
What would be a much bigger story would be if Avengers 4 has nothing to do with the Infinity Gauntlet. In the same interview, Kevin Feige refused to confirm whether or not Thanos was even in Avengers 4 and if Feige won't confirm something that previously seemed to be obvious, it may because things have changed a lot, and the title of Avengers 4 not referencing Thanos or the Gauntlet would certainly reveal that to the audience.
This leads us to wonder if calling the film Infinity Gauntlet isn't simply an internal title being used as a placeholder. Odds are that, if the title is truly being held back for story reasons, few within Marvel even know what Avengers 4 will be called. If too many people know, the odds of it being leaked go up. It's possible, even likely, that Zoe Saldana doesn't know the film's official title, simply to avoid a moment like this one.
If Avengers 4 truly contains a spoiler for Avengers: Infinity War then the earliest we would expect to get the title would be during the credits of Infinity War. With just over a year before that film's release, there really doesn't seem to be much of a reason to not give us a name unless the spoiler reasoning is accurate. If Zoe Saldana has, in fact, spilled the beans then maybe Marvel will decide to release the title sooner. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend as we'll keep following this story until we have an answer.
