The internet (well, the geeky corners of it) is still buzzing from the surprise news that came Monday that Hellboy is getting an R-rated reboot rather than a continuation of the Guillermo del Toro-helmed and Ron Perlman-led series. Along with that general announcement, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola revealed that Neil Marshall will direct this movie and Stranger Things actor David Harbour will play the red-skinned, bulky hero. There already seems to be a lot of support for Harbour taking on the role, and now one fan has taken it upon himself to conjure up how this new iteration of Hellboy could look on the big screen.
Digital artist BossLogic came up with this mock-up for ComicBook.com of what he imagines David Harbour could look like as Hellboy in the upcoming reboot, and it's an impressive imagining. Looking at Harbour's physical frame and facial structure, one could already tell that Harbour would fill in the Hellboy shoes nicely, but with the red body paint, sawed-off horns, beard and chest designs added to the equation, this artwork confirms it further. Obviously Harbour's Hellboy won't look 100% like this on the big screen, but whenever that first image or trailer giving fans their first glimpse of him in full character, we wouldn't be surprised it it matches up extremely closely to the above image. The only crucial thing missing from this depiction is Hellboy's stone hand, the Right Hand of Doom. Well, and he could use a shirt, but we'll let that one slide.
David Harbour is currently best known for playing Chief Jim Hopper in the Netflix series Stranger Things, but the man has been professionally acting in movies, television and on stage for nearly 30 years. His other recent credits include The Newsroom, Banshee, State of Affairs, The Equalizer and Black Mass. The Hellboy reboot also won't be Harbour's first foray into the world of comic book media, as he previously appeared as Frank Scanlon in The Green Hornet and Dexter Tolliver in Suicide Squad.
In addition to the initial information provided by Mike Mignola earlier this week, the Hellboy reboot reportedly has the working title Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, and the script comes from Mignola, Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden. The movie's producers are also supposedly aiming to begin production this fall, although that shoot time is not set in stone yet. Since this news is still fresh, it will presumably be a while until we learn more concrete plot details, including what kind of paranormal/magical threat David Harbour's Hellboy will battle.
