It's a very exciting time to be a Star Wars fan. With Disney now in charge of the property, we can expect a new installment every year for the foreseeable future. This includes main films like Star Wars: The Last Jedi, as well as standalone movies like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The next one of these types of movies will arrive in May, as Solo: A Star Wars Story will expand the beloved smuggler's history for the first time. And it turns out that actor Alden Ehrenreich made sure to meet Harrison Ford before starting his work on the highly anticipated movie. Here's why:
I wanted to meet him because I just felt generally it wouldn't be right to do the movie without some kind of contact with him, and I'm really glad I did. He was very, very supportive. And it's just cool to have lunch with Harrison Ford.
Now that's something that'll make hardcore Star Wars fans happy. While they'll have to reconcile with a new actor playing the role of Han Solo, at least he was sure to pay respects to the original. Now the question is: what exactly did Ford tell the newcomer?
That's exactly what EW tried to find out from Alden Ehrenreich, although the actor wasn't budging. His conversation is apparently going to kept between he and Harrison Ford, at least until one of them let's it slip. Ehrenreich said,
He said a great thing when I met him. 'Tell them I told you everything you needed to know, and that you can't tell anyone.'
Once again Harrison Ford proves why his fans love him so much. Sassy asides like this are part of what makes his performance as Han Solo so beloved, as his mixture of gruff and natural charm can win over even the most determined Princess. It's this type of charisma that Alden Ehrenreich will need if he's going to give a convincing performance in Solo: A Star Wars Story. So hopefully meeting Ford helped him find the right headspace.
Anticipation for Solo: A Star Wars Story has reached a fever pitch in the past few days, as the first footage from the upcoming standalone movie was finally released. The Super Bowl trailer set up the sci-fi western, and finally gave us our first look at new characters like Emilia Clarke's Qi'ra and Woody Harrelson's Tobias Beckett.
Of course, what was more exciting were glimpses of beloved classic Star Wars characters. In addition to Alden Ehrenreich's Han, we also saw the return of Chewbacca, as well as Donald Glover's take on Lando Calrissian. Luckily for fans, they won't have to wait very long before Solo arrives in theaters.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will debut on May 25th, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next binge watch.
