Spider-Man: Far From Home was one of 2019’s biggest blockbusters. The Web-Slinger’s sequel took fans to tourist attractions all over Europe as Peter Parker’s class embarked a much-needed vacation whilst processing the intense events of Avengers: Endgame. Behind the scenes, there’s a lot that went into crafting the massive action sequences in Far From Home from a visual effects standpoint – namely with Spidey’s final showdown with Mysterio in London.

Sony Pictures Imageworks has released an awesome video showcasing the VFX involved in creating the Spider-Man: Far From Home scene in London, and it includes a very Deadpool moment from Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Check it out:

Did you spot it? The fourth wall-breaking moment comes in the middle of the video while it's slowly scaling through one shot of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man as he swings around the London Bridge. He looks to the “camera” on our direction and says “Whoa, that’s awesome” as we marvel at the effects being added to the scene. He’s really obvious about it, making an effort to turn around to freak out with us over the power of VFX!

The whole video gives fans some great insight into the making of the scene in a stylish way. It looks like some of the scene was shot on location in London, and the effects of explosions and Mysterio’s drones were added in post. But shots involving Spider-Man were done on a green screen set with elements such as destroyed cars surrounding him, and the London background was added later.

Tom Holland’s likeness to Deadpool reminds us about one exciting possibility in the MCU going forward: will Ryan Reynolds’ snarky Wade Wilson ever cross paths with the lovable Web-Slinger? Since the Disney/Fox deal earlier this year, it’s certainly in the realm of possibility! Ryan Reynolds was at Marvel Studios a couple months back and seems already at home with the other MCU actors in their fantasy football league.

For a short time there, Spider-Man and Deadpool may have never been able to cross paths. Sony and Disney broke their custody agreement with Tom Holland’s Wall-Crawler – that is until a drunken phone call between the actor and Disney CEO Bob Iger started to patch things up between the studios. Spider-Man is back with the MCU and Deadpool is technically in the shared universe, so here’s hoping they break the fourth wall together someday.

The nearest MCU crossover (sort of) is between Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland in Dolittle. Holland plays a dog with glasses to Downey’s veterinarian character. It hits theaters on January 17, 2020. Check out the other exciting releases coming in the new year!
