While comic book movies have been dominating the industry for a decade, none have had as wild a ride as Zack Snyder’s Justice League. After a disappointing theatrical cut, fans campaigned for years for Warner Bros. to reveal the filmmaker’s true vision. And now one producer has offered some possible hope for fans still hoping for a sequel.
Zack Snyder was crafting a five-film narrative for the DCEU, starting with Man of Steel. As such, he was originally hoping to have two sequels following Justice League. And once the Snyder Cut planted some narrative seeds, fans are hoping Warner Bros. will change its tune and eventually order a sequel. Longtime DC producer Charles Roven recently spoke about his future in the comic book genre, including a hopeful message about Justice League’s possible sequel. While also speaking about James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, Roven said:
Do you hear that sound? It’s DC fans out there collectively cheering with joy. Because while there’s currently no plans for a Justice League sequel, some of the powers that be think it's possible down the road. As such, expect those #RestoreTheSnyderVerse calls to remain for the foreseeable future. After all, The Snyder Cut’s release felt similarly impossible at the start.
Charles Roven’s comments to THR come from a long piece about his career, including the many superhero projects he’s worked on over the years. Prior to the DCEU, Roven helped to produce beloved movies like The Dark Knight and Scooby-Doo. And it seems that if Justice League or The Suicide Squad ever get sequels, he’ll also be involved as a producer. Fingers crossed.
Both Justice League and The Suicide Squad are currently available on HBO Max. You can use this link to sign up for the streaming service.
This comment is sure to give hope to fans who want to see Justice League get the sequel treatment, preferably with Zack Snyder’s vision behind the camera. But it’ll likely take years before this could ever become a reality. Snyder hasn’t been in contact with Warner Bros., while the studio has denied rumors of restoring the Snyderverse.
