Subscribe To Weekend Box Office: The LEGO Movie Pulls A Trifecta, Pompeii Goes Up In Flames Updates
Things keep snapping into place for The LEGO Movie. The animated feature dominated the box office for a third weekend in a row, adding $31 million to its impressive $183 million total. Very few animated films show that kind of staying power. The last animated film to do so well going into its third weekend was Shrek 2 ($38 million).

Second place went to 3 Days to Kill, which earned a slight $12 million. It marks the second lowest opening for director McG and puts the PG-13 action flick in a position to bank only a modest return on its $28 million price tag.

Disaster flicks usually do fair business at the box office, but Pompeii went down in volcanic flames. With just $10 million on its opening weekend and only $22 million from foreign sales, it's the latest in a series of financial flops to roll out this year.

What has been declared as Hayao Miyazaki's final farewell to the fans of his animated masterpieces, The Wind Rises has already earned more than $100 million internationally. It debuted state-side in just 21 venues but still took in more than $300,000. The movie is set to expand into a limited 450 venue release next week.
