Adele Takes Karl Lagerfeld's Fat Comments Pretty Well

Brit singer Adele may be extremely happy Vogue’s Anna Wintour introduced her to the world of fashion, but as a whole, the “Someone Like You” singer is not particularly worried about her figure or looks. After a comment from a highly-touted fashion designer, Adele spoke out in an interview with Anderson Cooper - set for this weekend’s 60 Minutes time slot- about how she feels about her looks.

“I’ve never seen magazine covers and music videos and been like ‘I need to look like that to be a success'. I don’t want to be some skinny mini with my tits out. I really don’t want to do it and I don’t want people confusing what it is that I am about.”

The interview has come at a big moment in Adele’s life. She has been a critical darling since her sophomore album, 21, launched in 2011 and her six Grammy nominations show that success. However, the mood of the week leading into this Sunday’s Grammy Awards Ceremony has been a little dour, with a member of the fashion world weighing in on Adele. According to The New York Post, Chanel’s mainstay designer, Karl Lagerfeld had some nice things to say about the songstress while guest editing at the newspaper Metro. He also managed to call Adele “a little too fat.”

Maybe it’s the magic of Grammy week and maybe Adele is not one to get down on herself, but either way she’s been cordial about the Lagerfeld comment. He, to his credit, has since apologized.

"I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean you to you in regards to your appearance...Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can't wait for her next CD."

Quick save by the high end designer. To his credit, I’m almost happy he made the original comment. It meant we got to hear Adele use the term “skinny mini.”
