Just a few weeks away from beginning production on the twenty-ninth season of Jeopardy, longtime host Alex Trebek suffered a heart attack yesterday. The seventy-one-year-old began experiencing mild chest pains on Saturday and was taken to the hospital as precaution. While there, it was found the situation was a bit more serious than expected, and doctors told him he’d had a minor heart attack.
Fans of the popular game show shouldn’t worry though. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Trebek remained in the hospital overnight but only for observational purposes. He’s expected to be out shortly and should return to the stage by the scheduled start date to shoot new Jeopardy episodes.
Sony Pictures Television, which produces the beloved program, released a statement earlier today giving a full update. Here’s what the note had to say…
“Trebek is in good spirits and is currently under observation and undergoing further testing. He is expected to fully recover and be back at Jeopardy! when production begins taping in July for the new season, the show's 29th.”
It’s good to hear Trebek is maintaining positivity, especially after all he’s been through the past few years. The host largely had a clean bill of health for years, but he suffered a heart attack in 2007. A few years later, he fended off a burglar in the middle of the night, snapping his Achilles’ tendon. Now the most recent heart attack can be added to that sordid list.
Pop Blend wishes Trebek nothing but the best as he improves. One would imagine he can probably rattle off ten or fifteen crossword puzzles in a day while in the hospital.
