A few weeks ago, Elton John and his partner, David Furnish, blasted Madonna after she beat him out in the Golden Globes race for this year’s best original song. It’s tough to take a loss when you’ve written all the songs for an animated film like Gnomeo and Juliet and I guess Elton John isn’t quite over his loss quite yet. Luckily, he’s found himself a second forum to compete with the “Like A Virgin“ singer. On February 5, Elton and Madonna will be sharing some turf…well, sort of.

While Madonna is set to highlight the 2012 Superbowl halftime show, Elton John will advertise himself through a new The X Factor commercial set to air sometime during the show. According to ABC News, John will feature in the commercial as a King who earns a little sass from The X Factor Season 1 winner Melanie Amarro. On Good Morning, America John also spoke out about what he expects from Madonna’s halftime gig, which we now know will feature Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.
“I’ve never seen a decent one. Never ever.”

While I can’t wait to see John dressed in Renaissance finery and acting like a king, Madonna’s show also looks like it has the potential to cause a buzz. Pop Blend will have to wait to find out the day after the show which gig has become the more popular success. Who do you expect will come out with the most buzz the day after the big event? Madonna or John? Only time will tell.
