Winning an Oscar has got to be one of the more surreal moments in an actor’s life. Getting up on stage, all eyes on you as you are being recognized for the ultimate achievement in an actor’s career. The Academy even gives you a nicely sized trophy to commemorate said achievement. But after the ceremony is done, and the coveted statuette heads back to the winner’s home, where does it go? Some actors have designated areas for their specialty awards, others aren’t fond of seeing it too often, and there are a few who keep it in strange places for very specific reasons. Among those actors is Kate Winslet, who keeps her Best Actress Oscar in her bathroom.

Winslet isn’t the first Oscar winner to admit keeping their trophy in their bathroom, she joins a long list of actors who keep it in the restroom including Emma Thompson, Susan Sarandon, Lionel Richie, and Sean Connery. Both Jodie Foster and J.K. Simmons had their Academy Awards in their water closets as well, but have since moved them to more traditional areas. And though keeping an Oscar near the toilet seems a bit odd, Winslet has the perfect reasoning for it. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal she admitted:
The whole point is for everybody to pick it up and go, ‘I’d like to thank my son and my dad’—and you can always tell when someone has, because they’re in there a little bit longer after they flushed. They’ll come out looking slightly pink-cheeked. It’s hysterical.

It is pretty hilarious to imagine one of Kate Winslet’s house guests spending 20 minutes in the bathroom, only to come out, as if they just received the biggest award of their lifetime. Though, depending on the placement of the trophy in the bathroom, it may be a difficult place to get your business done, as you have a golden statuette staring at you, reminding you that you don’t have an Oscar yet.

Either way, it’s nice to know that some Hollywood actors don’t let the win get to their head. Winslet herself is “super proud” of her Best Actress Oscar for The Reader, but still thrives to succeed further. The actress does also have an Emmy, Grammy, and three Golden Globes, but that won’t keep her from trying to land a bigger and better role. Kate Winslet can be seen next in Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs on October 9.
