It's definitely disappointing that American Horror Story decided to keep audiences guessing on what Season 6 is going to be about, but the silver lining in this case is that there have been more random-ass teasers than normal, since there isn't really a central theme to tie it all together. And I almost had to get up and leave my house after watching the latest one seen below, which turned my previous lack of interest in creepy baby dolls on its ugly head.
I mean, dammit, man. I never really had a problem watching Child's Play or the Puppet Master franchise as a kid, since Chucky and all those other small bastards were just blatantly evil (even while making quips). But what makes this teaser work so effectively for me is that this pigtailed lil' beast doesn't necessarily look like she's only interested in malice. In fact, it appears to me as if she's a victim of something. Things that want to kill you usually aren't all fucked up and maimed themselves... Okay, never mind, that basically explains Nightmare on Elm Street and any number of other flicks.
Still, she's got teeth blown through the bottom of her mouth, as if she had a breath mint explode. Why is a doll sucking on a breath mint? That's just part of the mystery, people!
Fitting in with that is the fact that the doll isn't actually doing anything all that memorable. She basically looks like a cow chewing cud. And that, for whatever reason, bothers me so much more than if she'd be all weird and glitchy and haunting like most doll horror stuff. (Eat her shorts, Annabelle.) _Because _what is she chewing? It's presumably just the inside of her cheek, and that's so not right.
It isn't very likely that American Horror Story Season 6 is going to use a gross-faced doll within its theme, so this is probably just a one-off to spook folks. We're still completely out of touch on what to expect later this month, though it's possible some leaked info points to another teaser being the "real" one. Set photos seem to point in one particular direction, but that could easily just be a ruse as well. Abut while we don't know what we'll see, we know WHO we'll see, as Sarah Paulson, Lady Gaga, Angela Bassett, Matt Bomer and more are set to return.
Pull the string on its back, and American Horror Story will return to FX to give your nightmares the willies when Season 6 debuts on Wednesday, September 14, at 10:00 p.m. ET. To see when everything else is coming to the small screen, check out our fall TV schedule.
