Benedict Cumberbatch To Voice A Role In The Simpsons

Benedict Cumberbatch seems like he'd be a prime candidate to do voice-work, what with his deep voice, British accent and articulate way of speaking. And it just so happens that he's credited for two voice-roles in the second part of the upcoming Hobbit film The Hobbit: There and Back Again. But before that, Simpsons fans may hear him in an episode of the Fox animated series.

British news site The London Evening Standard posted that the Sherlock star told the U.K.'s In Style that he's set to voice a part on The Simpsons. The Standard didn't offer any details as to who he will be voicing or when it will air, but it sounds like Cumberbatch was the one to initiate getting the part.

He explained: "I was at a meeting in the same place The Simpsons is recorded and heard there was a part going in an episode."I said, 'I hate to muscle in here guys but could I record it?' Next thing, I'm standing in a room with all those famous voices; Bart, Marge, Homer, Lisa."

Lucky coincidence, but a good one for The Simpsons. Between his Sherlock success and his anticipated role in the upcoming Star Trek sequel, Cumberbatch should be considered a hot commodity these days. If he's half as good at voice-work as he is at acting, The Simpsons is fortunate to have gotten him.

Maybe it's because he's expected to play a villain in the Star Trek sequel, or because the thought of him lending his voice to The Simpsons for some reason caused me to flashback to Sideshow Bob, but I could see him playing a bad-guy of sorts in the series. We'll have to wait and see.
