When Spartacus creator Steven DeKnight spoke with the press last month, following the season finale of Starz’ Spartacus: Vengeance, he mentioned the addition of three new female characters who’d be introduced to the series in the third season, but he wouldn’t reveal any details beyond that. We may have our first clue as to one of them.

Deadline reported earlier today that Anna Hutchison has just landed a recurring role on Spartacus, presumably for Season 3. The site doesn’t elaborate beyond that, and Steven DeKnight remained tight-lipped on it when we asked him for details Twitter, though he did say "Soon." So, hopefully there will be a more official, detailed announcement on the casting forthcoming.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Hutchison, the New Zealand-born actress can be seen on the big screen as of this weekend, playing Jules in Cabin in the Woods. There’s a bit of Whedonverse crossover here, as DeKnight once wrote for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, which was created by Joss Whedon, who wrote The Cabin in the Woods alongside the film’s director Drew Goddard, who also wrote for Buffy. It’ll be very interesting to learn more details on the role Hutchison is set to tackle on Spartacus, and whether or not she’s one of the mentioned three new female characters.
