The dream of the ’90’s may be alive in Springfield. Just a week after IFC’s comedy series Portlandia returned for its second season comes word that series creators and stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein are headed to Fox for a guest spot on the network’s long-running animated comedy series The Simpsons.

Portlandia has been generating a lot of buzz lately, particularly with tonight’s Battlestar Galactica themed ”One Moore Episode”. While the IFC comedy series celebrates a beloved sci-fi series, it seems The Simpsons may be embracing Portlandia at some point in the future. According to TVLine, Portlandia stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein will lend their voices to The Simpsons in an episode that will air next fall during the series’ 24th season.

Fittingly, Brownstein and Armisen will play the part of a “cool” that moves to Springfield from the ever-trendy Portland. While Homer attempts to become friends with them, it sounds like Marge has reservations about the idea of being cool. The episode is titled “The Day the Earth Stayed Cool.” Given that the focus of Portlandia is on finding the humor in hipster culture, this episode sounds like a great fit for the two actors. I wonder how Lisa will react to them...
