Hawaii Five-0 fans have at least one question answered regarding the cliffhanger ending of Season 2: who will play Steve McGarrett’s allegedly dead mother. The last season ended when he found himself face-to-face with her, and now that face has been cast. The role of Doris McGarrett will be played by a very familiar face for TV audiences.

EW says Christine Lahti has signed on to play the role of Doris on a recurring basis, so we will be seeing plenty of her on the show in the upcoming third season. The Chicago Hope and Jack & Bobby star will step into what is predicted to be a pivotal role in the series and a big part of the new season. Right now just what she will be up to is being kept under wraps, but executive producer Peter Lenkov hints that “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” Doris McGarrett was supposed to have been killed in a car-bomb, but the season finale found Steve discovering that’s not so. Lahti’s recurring role means fans should get some answers in the new season.

Christine Lahti is a multiple Emmy nominee and picked up a win for her role in Chicago Hope in 1998. She definitely brings some star power to the third season of CBS’ retooling of the original Hawaii Five-0 series. It was renewed back in March and seems to be gearing up for a strong third season. Lahti also has a film on the way, Truck Stop, which is set for release next year.
