Fox's The Following Adds Annie Parisse As A Series Regular

Having seen the pilot for the Kevin Williamson-created Fox series The Following, I think the series has real potential to go some place dark and thrilling and altogether twisted, especially for a network TV show. But in an effort to avoid major spoilers, I will continue to bite my tongue and simply say that I'm really excited for this one to premiere, and I'll also drop a small, somewhat repetitive complaint that I wish we didn't have to wait until midseason for it to air.

Fox announced today that Annie Parisse has been added to the cast of The Following as a series regular. The vaguest description for the series is that it stars Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy as an FBI agent and a serial killer respectively. When Purefoy's Joe Carroll escapes incarceration, Bacon's Ryan Hardy is called back to duty to track him down. Parisse, whose credits include How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and more recently, a few episodes of Person of Interest, has been tapped to play Debra Parker, an FBI Specialist who is brought in to lead the investigation.

The series is set to premiere on Fox Midseason 2013. Watch the trailer here.

SPOILER WARNING

There's a bit more to premise of this series and Fox mentions it more specifically in their description below. With that said, consider yourselves somewhat spoiler warned here. I actually think the less you know about the series beyond the cast and the general set-up, the better, so If you're good in knowing the vague set-up for the series, all of the relevant information is mentioned above. If you want a bit more to go on, you'll find it in Fox's description below.

The chilling new series focuses on former FBI agent RYAN HARDY (Emmy Award-nominated actor Kevin Bacon, “X-Men: First Class,” “Frost/Nixon”), who is brought in as a consultant when notorious serial killer JOE CARROLL (James Purefoy, “Rome”) escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree. Hardy discovers that, while in prison, Carroll was covertly communicating with a network of killers in the outside world and it quickly becomes obvious that he has more planned than just his escape.

It's that last line that offers up a bit more than I think the trailer has revealed, though there are some hints there. Watch the trailer and get more information here.
