March 31 still feels like an eternity away. In reality, it's only about five months, which isn't so bad. But for those waiting for Game of Thrones to return for its third season, it feels like forever. At the very least, we have little tidbits of casting information to offer hints of what's to come between now and then. And today, that comes in the form of a certain drummer who's set to put his rhythmic skills to good use in the HBO fantasy-drama series.

It seems Game of Thrones is collecting musicians. As EW reports, Snow Patrol's lead singer Gary Lightbody was cast last summer to play a yet-to-be-described cameo in the series. And this week comes word that Coldplay's drummer Will Champion has been cast for Season 3. He will apparently be playing a drummer, which seems like a fitting part for him, given his day-job.

Beyond the obvious musical connection between Lightbody and Champion, there's no word on whether their roles are related, but one might draw the conclusion that Game of Thrones is putting a band together. Perhaps there's some festival or celebratory occasion that will require some alt-rock music? That's just speculation, and two musicians isn't quite a pattern, but we have a singer and a drummer, so we'll have to see if any other notable musicians are brought on board (and whether they might have the background experience and talent to play whatever instruments might exist in Westeros). Those who have read the later novels may have better theories than that. Is there anything involving music in the books that might explain Champion's casting?

Game of Thrones is based on George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series. The drama is set to return to HBO for Season 3 on March 31, 2013.
