Giant Fricken Laser Hits Los Angeles This Thursday

Word on the street is, Sheldon’s building a new laser! Who is Sheldon? I have absolutely no idea but I’m hoping the big mysterious event, which is set to take place in Los Angeles, CA on September 13th will be able to give us a few new clues.

The video below was sent to me by a source that was unable to provide any additional details about the video other than the fact that it’s related to a new show coming out this fall. When? No idea. What network? They refused to say. (Possible Clue: The YouTube video has "cbs" listed as one of the tags). All we know for sure is that something laser-related is going to happen in L.A. on Thursday.

Below is the video which shows an older man with an eye patch. He is Dr. Francis Burkholder, a professor of Applied Photonics. He talks a bit about lasers and mentions a guy named Sheldon. When Sheldon was 14 he made a laser but as to what happened to the laser, Dr. Burkholder refuses to say, due to legal issues. Burkholder says Sheldon is a genius and that he’s “got to prove he’s right.”

Is this for real? Well, in the sense that it’s a promotional stunt meant to advertise a mysterious new TV show, then yes, it’s totally for real. Something is supposed to happen in L.A. on Thursday and it will most likely involve a laser (as the video suggests). Is it for real in the sense that if you’re on the west coast, you should be packing your bags and getting your ass east of the San Andreas Fault? No, as far as I know, California isn’t any closer to breaking off the mainland and drifting out into the Pacific than it was previously.

Here’s the video:

Update: - Michael Hinman over at Syfyportal.com managed to crack at least part of the mystery. According to Hinman, one of SyFy Portal's readers figured out that the show being promoted is CBS's Big Bang Theory. Evidence of this is further enforced by the photograph of Sheldon, from the video. Note the shirt he's wearing. Then check out the photo in our Fall TV Preview. Same shirt. Same guy. That, added to the "cbs" tag on the YouTube page, is enough to convince me that SyFi Portal got it right.

So now we know what show it is, but we still have no idea what's going to happen in L.A. on Thursday, 9/13!
