High School Musical 2 Airs This Weekend

DVDs, CDs, concert tours, ice shows, books and even a video game – Disney successfully managed to squeeze every dollar they could out of the made-for-TV-movie, High School Musical. And since no amount of merchandising would truly be able to satisfy the audience of tweens out there who just cant get enough of the corny musical, the Disney Channel is set to air a sequel, titled High School Musical 2, this weekend.

Just when you thought you finally got “Stick to the Status Quo” out of your head, the Disney Channel is about to unload a whole new set of songs in the High School Musical sequel. Unlike those of us who had to suffer through Grease 2, which only had one of the main stars from the original Grease, High School Musical fans will get to enjoy the original cast in the sequel. Zac Efron is back playing Troy and Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale will return to their roles as Gabriella and Sharpay.

In High School Musical, the story centered on a guy and girl who fell for each other despite being situated in different social circles. The moral of that story was something like, “Its ok to date a theater person even if you’re a basketball player.” In the sequel, Troy, Gabriella and the rest of the Wildcat gang get jobs at Sharpay’s country club. Sharpay attempts to win back Troy by lavishing him with fame, fortune and social stature. Songs, dancing and G-rated drama are sure to ensue as Troy has to decide if he’s willing to lose Gabriella for a bit of social status and the chance to sing with Sharpay in the talent show.

High School Musical 2 will premiere on the Disney Channel on Friday, August 17th at 8:00 p.m. EST
