Last Resort's Robert Patrick Upped To Series Regular On True Blood

True Blood has always featured a revolving list of weird plotlines, which means new characters are introduced often, and other characters pop into the plot on an “as needed” basis. It looks like Season 6 of HBO’s supernatural drama will be spending a little more time looking at wolf packs and the bonds between a father and his son. This summer, Robert Patrick will be upped to a series regular on True Blood.

Patrick, who is probably best known for his role in Terminator 2, recently landed in a big way on ABC’s Last Resort. That show has basically already been cancelled by the alphabet network, which should free up the actor’s schedule to engage in some more True Blood, and the writers are happy to have him. According to Deadline, Last Resort went ahead and formerly released the actor so he could take the gig at HBO.

Patrick first appeared as Alcide’s father, Jackson Herveaux, a packless wolf who has lost the respect of his son, but is still kind of a hardass. His first appearance was in Season 5, and he showed up in two additional episodes, last year. As True Blood was finishing out its season, Alcide got a little shady with his father during a transaction involving vampire blood, which later helped gain Alcide prominence in the pack. With all of the drama that’s gone on between the two so far, I’m pretty sure Jackson Herveaux will cause more grief for his son than good, but I’m excited to see how Season 6 plays out.

True Blood is set to return in the summer of 2013.
