Though she's made a name for herself in films like Watchmen, 27 Dresses and Rock of Ages, Malin Akerman has a number of TV roles under her belt, including the (now-Emmy award winning) Adult Swim series Children's Hospital, an episode of How I Met Your Mother and the brilliant but short-lived HBO comedy The Comeback. While Akerman has a number of feature projects in the works, including one of the Linda Lovelace biopics and Breacher, she may also be headed back to television for a starring role.

Deadline says Akerman has signed on to star in the ABC single camera comedy pilot Trophy Wife. Written by Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, with Bad Teacher writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky on board to executive produce, the comedy centers on a former party girl named Kate (Akerman) who falls for a man "with three manipulative kids and two judgmental ex-wives." Sounds like a challenging situation and one with definite comedic potential, especially if the two mentioned wives are funny women.

With Akerman on board to star, the pilot has the green light to go to production, so we'll have to keep an eye out on casting news for this project going forward. Whether or not this one makes it to series remains to be seen, but we'll be seeing Akerman on the small screen soon enough regardless. She's set to play the role of Tessa's mom in ABC's Suburgatory. As a fan of hers since she played the up-and-coming rock/TV star Juna Millken on The Comeback, I'm hopeful that things will work out for the ABC pilot, as it'd be great to see her make a more permanent return to television.
