Between nearly quitting gymnastics prior to the Olympics and dealing with a hair controversy after her gold medal all-around gymnastics win, Gabby Douglas has had one hell of an Olympics season, which means she has some stories to tell. On August 26, the 16-year-old star will join Oprah Winfrey for a special episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter that will illuminate her life within and outside of the sport that made her a household name.

The segment will take place in Iowa at the gym where Douglas spent six days a week training for the 2012 Olympic Summer Games, and will focus on an interview with the young star as well as interviews with Douglas’ host family and her mother, Natalie, who has become a familiar face thanks to cheering during all of Gabby’s competitions. The story of a young gymnast becoming a world champion, earning a spot on the Olympic stage, and subsequently becoming the only woman of color to ever win the all-around competition is a compelling one, and should be interesting when dissected by the young lady herself.

Personally, I can’t wait to hear what she has to say about people complaining on Twitter about her hairstyle choice. It seems rude and thoughtless to knock on an athlete for not wearing her hair in more of an admirable fashion when she was working hard, but so far she’s handled the criticism like a champ, which just goes to show how stand-up the athlete is.

You can catch the interview when it airs on OWN on Sunday, August 26 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
