Say Buh-Bye To The Montel Williams Show…Sort Of

The Montel Williams Show will end its 17-year run at the end of this season, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

But it may not be the show’s last hurrah quite yet. CBS Television Distribution, the syndicated show's producer and distributor, is offering a series titled Best of Montel for fall, which includes 52 weeks of highlight episodes from the show.

"We have been honored to have Montel as a part of our family for the past 17 years, and we're very excited that Montel will live on through these 'best of' episodes," said John Nogawski, president and COO of CBS TV Distribution. Don’t expect to see Williams disappear, though. He’s executive producing at least five projects in the next few years, including 4Chosen, a drama scheduled for a 2009 release with Billy Zane, Laurence Fishburne and Cybill Shepherd in talks to star.

Interestingly, Sony Pictures TV recently announced that it will cease production on its long-time court show Judge Hatchett after the end of its current eighth season and cull from the series' library to present 52 themed weeks for fall.

So what’s the deal here? Are people getting tired of seeing the scum of the earth air their baggage in the court of public TV?
