Sons Of Anarchy Season 5 Premiere Roars Back With High Ratings, Watch The New Promo

Sons of Anarchy got off to a tense start for its fifth season last night. The ratings are in for the FX drama series' 90-minute season premiere, and we also have a new promo for Season 5 that gives us a look at what's ahead, for those of you who are already itching for more SAMCRO action.

Sons of Anarchy's Season 5 premiere didn't just do well in the ratings. The super-sized episode managed to bring in 5.37 million viewers, which, according to EW, makes it the most watched episode ever in the biker drama's history at FX. It was up from the Season 4 premiere in all of the key demos (10% in viewers and 14% in adults 25-54.)

(Spoilers from last night's episode ahead!) The season premiere picked up with Jax running the club, Clay looking down and out (I'm convinced we're going to see a scary comeback at some point), Gemma moving on (with Jimmy Smit's Nero!). And Tig paying a dear cost for accidentally killing an angry gangster's daughter. Dawn's death was a disturbing scene for the show, but Kim Coates delivered a great performance. I can't help but wonder if Tig's eventually going to blame Clay for the chain of events that led to this.

So much has already happened and this is just the beginning for the season. I can only imagine what's coming up. Fortunately, we don't have to imagine all of it. FX released this promo, which shows us what's ahead for Season 5…

Prison fighting. Tara threatening Gemma (wow.). Harold Perrineau's Damon Pope. Guns. Fire. More guns. Anger. Exciting stuff!

Sons of Anarchy airs Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m. ET on FX.
