Vh1 Will Make You Cringe With The OCD Project

You may remember Vh1's announcement from a few weeks back that they were trying to class up the joint, moving away from trainwreck TV like Rock of Love and Megan Wants a Millionaire and bringing back Behind the Music instead. The plan involved starting 44 new series, a mammoth number that guaranteed we'd be seeing an endless series of Vh1 press releases announcing whatever new thing they were excited about that day.

And here we go. The Futon Critic snagged the network's press release announcing the new series The OCD Project, which is some kind of hybrid of True Life and a Dr. Drew show, in which six people with severe obsessive-compulsive disorders are treated via 21 days of immersive therapy. Led by "world-renowned anxiety specialist" Dr. David Tolin, the six patients will be forced to face their fears, which range from worrying about hitting a pedestrian whenever they drive to concern that they have the ability to "cause death and disaster through mind control." Yeah, this is not the kind of OCD you're used to seeing on Monk.

While the motivation behind the show is all well and good, it sounds like it'll make for some truly cringe-inducing television, watching terrified people coming face to face with the things that, however irrationally, they fear most. If you're the kind of person who only likes the parts of The Biggest Loser where people cry their way through physical tasks, well, maybe this is something you'll be into. The OCD Project premieres on Vh1 on May 27 at 10 p.m., and a sneak peek of the episode is available at their website starting May 24. You can also check out a trailer for the series, with all that cringing and sobbing I predicted, embedded below.
