Why Girl Minions Don't Exist
In the last five years, movie-goers have seen a sea of the little yellow rascals known as "Minions" hit the big screen, both through two Despicable Me movies and a solo film. One mystery that has persisted about the creatures, however, is why they are all portrayed as male.

The 10 Highest Selling Blu-rays Of All-Time
While a movieís box office numbers are a good sign of its popularity or the level of anticipation it was able to muster, one could argue that Blu-ray sales are an indicator of just how beloved that title is.

Pharrell To Perform At This Year's Academy Awards
There is a great tradition of artists performing renditions of their nominated songs at the Academy Awards, and it's one that will continue at this year's ceremony. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences has announced that in between bits from Ellen DeGeneres and statues being handed out, Pharrell Williams is set to perform his song "Happy" from Despicable Me 2 at this year's Oscars.

Oscar Analysis 2014: Breaking Down The Best Original Song Race
This is one of the better years, however, particularly considering at some points the category would have only two to three nominations overall. That wasnít the case in 2013, as the voters truly spread the wealth, resulting in five very diverse, unexpected selections.

This Week In Home Entertainment: Fast & Furious, Despicable Me 2 And More
There canít be any talk about this latest Fast & Furious release without a nod to the late Paul Walker. I watched the Blu-ray edition for the latest movie in the franchise, Fast & Furious 6, just a short time after news of Walkerís untimely death hit the press.

Pharrell Debuts Addictive 24-Hour Music Video For His Oscar-Hopeful Song 'Happy'
There's not a single song I'd willingly listen to for 24 hours straight-- my favorite song of all time, The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" used to be my ringtone until I wore out on it and had to give it up. But I invite you to take the 24 hour challenge anyway with Pharrell's "Happy," because dear God have he and a bunch of talented dancers made it worth it

19 Films Are Being Considered For 2013's Best Animated Feature Academy Award
To be expected, the foreign films are the meatier bits, and the clear frontrunner to me is Hayao Miyazakiís historical fantasy The Wind Rises - even though I havenít seen it yet. Itís the last film for the legendary director, whose Spirited Away took the prize back in 2001.

Despicable Me 2 Gets Denied Release In China
Producer and film consultant Robert Cain told the newspaper, "One could speculate that [Chinese authorities] are saying, 'OK, enough American animated movies this summer.' Animation is an important area for China domestically." Furthermore, Cain says that the decision likely has nothing to do with the content of the movie itself.

Weekend Box Office: Despicable Me 2 On Top Again As Pacific Rim Takes A Monster-Sized Stumble
America's bizarre love affair with unfunny "comedies" reared its ugly head again this weekend as the sequel that no one should have wanted, Grown Ups 2 hit theaters and did better than the first one did.

Weekend Box Office: Despicable Me 2 Dazzles, The Lone Ranger Is A 4th of July Dud
Animated sequel Despicable Me 2 stole the show this weekend following a highly successful early July 4th holiday opening. Gru and his wildly popular minion crew outdid themselves with an $82 million debut, well beyond the $56 million opening for the first movie back in 2010.

The Lone Ranger Being Destroyed By Despicable Me 2's Minions At Box Office
Johnny Depp as a Native American sidekick just isnít selling tickets. The Lone Ranger is unlikely to make it even to $50 million as its final domestic total for the 5-day holiday weekend. Disneyís in trouble here because it wasnít exactly cheap to make. Though Johnny Depp reportedly took a 20% pay cut to star, the film still cost around $215 million to get in the can.

Supervillainy, Fatherhood And The Pain Of Rejection: Steve Carell Talks Despicable Me 2
A couple weeks ago I was invited to go to participate in a press day for the newly-released animated film Despicable Me 2, during which time Carell fielded questions from film reporters during a press conference. Read on below to discover the origins of Gruís voice, fear of becoming a too overprotective parent, and the horrible, lasting effect that romantic rejection early in life can have.

Despicable Me 2 Makes Twice The Lone Ranger's Opening Day Box Office
Yes, it's only Wednesday, but with tomorrow being Independence Day and a whole lot of people considering this a holiday weekend (not that we're jealous or anything!), all of the weekend's biggest releases are already open, and the box office reports are rolling in. The two biggest films, The Lone Ranger and Despicable Me 2, ought to have no trouble with competing with each other.

During this weekendís July 4th holiday the big 3D release is Cinco Paul and Ken Daurioís Despicable Me 2. Steve Carell Appears On Ellen As Despicable Me 2's Antihero Gru
Gru is undeniably a crowd sensation, showcased best when heís allowed to run around and dance in the audience to some disco. Not a whole lot of actual conversation about the movie takes place, seeing as how to Gru, there is no movie, but we do find out that heís from Albuquerque and that he ran into Ellen at a Starbucks on a previous occasion.

Al Pacino Drops Despicable Me 2, Benjamin Bratt Steps In
This casting news is made all the more surprising by Despicable Me 2's fast-approaching release date of July 3rd. Still, sources close to the creative team behind the sequel are confident they will have enough time for Bratt to re-record all of Pacino's lines without effecting the sequel's deadline.

Gru Meets His Match In Latest Despicable Me 2 Trailer
The film's first teaser was funny, but revealed little about the sequel's plot. But the latest trailer is far more forthcoming. It begins with Gru in suburban bliss, caring for his adopted daughters, Margo, Edith, and Agatha, worrying over boys and giving bedtime tuck-ins. Then, it kicks into full-gear when Gru is confronted by Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig) of the Anti-Villain League.

Despicable Me 2 Teaser Gets Abducted By Aliens
Though you might not know it if you don't have young kids, Despicable Me and its cheerful, blobby yellow minions became huge hits when the movie opened in 2010, and the inevitable sequel is on its way for next summer. Taking advantage of Halloween, Universal has released a new teaser for the sequel with a distinctly spooky flair

Despicable Me 2 Teaser Has The Minions Getting Musical
We have well over a year to wait for the sequel to Despicable Me to hit theaters. In the meantime, Universal and Illuminations have given us a little something to whet our appetites for the animated comedy sequel in the form of a musical teaser featuring a few of the minions.

Al Pacino Replaces Javier Bardem As Despicable Me 2 Villain
Itís kind of unbelievable, given his distinct gravel and recognizable delivery, that Pacino hasnít been asked to voice an animated character before over the course of his illustrious career. This could be a major win for the producers of the sequel, who perfectly tailored Carellís voice to Gru and have a shot to do something extraordinary with Pacino.

Javier Bardem Passes On Despicable Me Sequel
THR doesnít say why Bardem moved on, just that the part is back up for grabs. Losing Bardem stinks, but vocal talent on an animated feature is a little easier to replace. Heck, if you can find an animator who does a solid Bardem impression, Despicable Me 2 could be back on track.

Javier Bardem May Voice Villain Role Opposite Steve Carell In Despicable Me 2
With all due respect to Jason Segel, Vector was a forgettable foe in Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaudís animated comedy Despicable Me. Part of it was Segelís reading of the character, who was easily overshadowed by Steve Carellís Gru, the three adorable orphan girls, the yellow-bellied minions, and even Russell Brandís humorously out-of-touch Dr. Nefario. Gru needs a proper nemesis, and a new report says one might be on the horizon.

Despicable Me 2 Gets A Promo Poster
It's crazy how much Despicable Me made at the box office last year. Working with a reported budget under $70 million, the movie pulled in $543 million internationally making a lot of studio heads happy and guaranteeing a sequel. Sadly fans are going to have to wait quite a while for the second film to come out - as it is currently scheduled to be released on July 3, 2013 - but today a little taste has arrived online.
