It seems that Activision is already planning next year's Call of Duty. Bill Murray, the actor who plays Captain Price in the Modern Warfare sub-series, revealed that Modern Warfare 4 is in the works.

"On Monday I am off to meet Infinity Ward about the next game, Modern Warfare 4," Murray told ThisIsXbox.com. He added that it's a direct sequel to the events of Modern Warfare 3.

MW3 had a pretty definitive ending, I felt. World War 3 was over and the mastermind behind it was killed. Captain Price survived, though, so I suppose a sequel could just follow him as he tries to stop a new global threat.

I'd rather see a brand-new story but, well, where else would the series go? Call of Duty already did World War 2 to death. Furthermore, the Black Ops sub-series is exploring the Cold War and near-future eras. Activision could've opted to make a game set far in the future or past but Call of Duty has never been a series that took big risks. The safest option is another modern-day shooter.

Modern Warfare 4 will most likely come out in November 2013. We probably won't hear anything about it from Activision until this spring.
