Electronic Arts rebooted their digital EA Store today. The new version of the store, entitled Origin, offers over 150 Games on the PC.
Starting today gamers can download the Origin beta application from Origin.com. It allows you to download and play games as well as connect with other players. An in-game overlay allows you to browse the web and chat with friends. EA plans to add in-game DLC purchases as well. In order to give the service a lift, EA will be supplying it with exclusive content. Origin will offer limited edition copies of Battlefield 3, FIFA 12, Alice: Madness Returns and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. If you want to purchase Star Wars: The Old Republic digitally, you'll only be able to do so through Origin. During EA's E3 press conference on June 6th, some games on the service will receive exclusive content. Origins will also be available on mobile devices. Gamers can make a profile and then play EA smartphone titles like Scrabble with friends. Other social features like leaderboards will be included eventually. |
