Another year, another model of Playstation Portable. On Wednesday, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss David Reeves unveiled the PSP-3000 at Leipzig and gave a detailed run-down of why you should buy it and immediately throw out your old PSP.
Well, maybe he didn't use those exact words. Still, they're pretty proud of their new gizmo. The PSP-3000 will come with a built-in microphone and Skype communication software already installed for free Wi-Fi communication. It has the same compact size and general appearance of the PSP Slim & Lite (PSP-2000). However, the LCD screen will be brighter and utilize anti-reflective technology to reduce glare in well-lit areas. In other words, your games should look better even if the hardware itself doesn't.
If you live in North America, you'll be able to buy the PSP-3000 in Piano Black or Mystic Silver (Europe and Japan also get a Pearl White model) - nothing too spectacular, there. It's set for a global release in October and eight different bundles are planned with games such as FIFA 09 and Harry Potter. Each bundle will sell for 199 euros (about $295). A standalone "Core Pack" will ship later in the year for $169.99.
Update: Oh, and here's the video of the official press conference, if you like hearing technobabble spoken in a sophisticated British accent.
