With games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mindjack on the horizon, Sega has decided that they can also play the dramatic-thriller game, and announced that Binary Domain will be their attempt to get socially serious this generation.
Much like the formerly mentioned games, Binary Domain will see players working in a squad throughout a derelict city, fighting against a threat that seems more human than meets the eye, or in some cases, seems more robotic than meets the eye.
Yakuza creator, Toshihiro Nagoshi, who is also leading up the development team in Japan for the game, commented in the press release, saying…
“What I wanted to create this time was a dramatic and energetic sci-fi shooter. When you hear sci-fi you may think of cold, clinical environments but with Binary Domain I wanted to combine this with a deep human drama,” …“The keyword we have in mind for this project is ’Life’. I wanted to make something that will be accepted by both the Japanese and Western markets, and this fundamental theme is something everyone knows but which the full extent of can be difficult to grasp.”The whole dynamic enemy AI really does sound intriguing and the fact that this will be a squad based shooter adds some extra elements of survival to the fray, as opposed to the lone-gunman paradigm that most shooters employ. The debut trailer for the game seems typical Japanese-action-movie fare with the overtly stereotypical action heroes, but it’s the ending of the trailer that really brings out a haunting reality of what you may have to face in the game…and it’s not the giant Godzilla-sized robot.
The game is being designed for the Xbox 360 and PS3. You can learn more about Binary Domain by visiting the Official Website.
