Sega Announces WWII Video Game: Captain America Super Soldier

Oh joy, this is one of those moments where the palms get clammy and the hands start shaking over the sheer excitement of what could possibly be a straight-up awesome video game. Of course, there’s also the fear that this is just another movie game, but still…it’s the Captain and that automatically makes it cool. As if the headline isn’t obvious enough, Sega unveiled the World War II based video game, Captain America: Super Soldier today.

Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America commented in the press release, saying…

“Videogame players the world over can now become Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Captain America,” … “Captain America: Super Soldier puts players in the boots of the ultimate Super-Soldier, wielding Captain America’s legendary shield. Working closely with Marvel ensures we’re delivering the calibre product that gamers and comic fans deserve and it’s a partnership we’re proud of here at SEGA.”

Yeah, this game should be better than that awful Iron Man crap…if it’s on the same line then a lot of people (including yours truly) will be pissed. The last Captain America outing where he was the lead (and I’m not counting his appearances in Capcom fighting games) was Captain America and the Avengers from 1995. That’s a freaking long time. Although, I would be lying if I said I don’t play it every once in a while for nostalgia purposes.

Anyway, the game is a third-person action-adventure title where the Captain must face off against Red Skull’s army and defeat the evil Hydra scientists. It’s all standard-fare sounding but it could be kind of cool.

Christos Gage will be penning the story for it and hopefully we don’t get anime dubbed-quality voice-acting and cheesy one-liners. The game is set for a 2011 release on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS and PSP. For more info be sure to visit the Official Website.
