Star Trek: The Video Game Release Date Set For April, Box Art Unveiled

Star Trek: The Video Game will be hitting PS3, Xbox 360 and PC this spring. Namco Bandai and Paramount Pictures announced an April 26th release date for the co-op shooter in Europe and Australasia.

The North American launch date for Star Trek wasn't mentioned in the press release. April 26th will be a Friday. North American game launches typically occur on Tuesdays, so Trekkies in that territory will probably receive the game on the 23rd.

Star Trek is being developed by Digital Extremes, the studio responsible for Dark Sector as well as BioShock 2's multiplayer. The game is set between the 2009 reboot film and its upcoming sequel. Spock and Captain Kirk must stop the reptilian Gorn from wiping out the new Vulcan settlement. The story was written by Marianne Krawczyk, the scribe of the God of War series.

Gamers who pre-order Trek will get access to the Elite Officer Pack. The Elite Officer Pack contains, several sets of uniforms and items, including the following:

  • Stealth Pack – Kirk and Spock stealth uniforms, plus Starfleet Type IV Stealth Sniper Rifle and extra ammo
  • Brawler Pack – Kirk leather jacket costume and Spock Vulcan Science Academy costume
  • Kelvin Pack – Kirk and Spock U.S.S. Kelvin uniforms, plus U.S.S. Kelvin Hand Phaser
  • Academy Pack – Kirk Academy Uniform, Spock Officer Dress Uniform, plus Academy Phaser
  • Kobayashi Maru Pack – Kirk and Spock Kobayashi Maru uniforms

The box art for Star Trek is below. As you can see, Spock and Kirk are based off Zachary Quinto's and Chris Pine's portrayal of the characters in the films. The two actors will lend their voice to the game as well.
