The huge sales of the Call of Duty franchise year after year might lead some publishers to try releasing sequels on an annual basis as well. Take-Two won't be taking that approach, though.

Take-Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick told Reuters that the company won't be releasing yearly sequels of its top sellers. He believes that "annualizing" franchises will hurt their quality and burn out gamers as well.

It's not as though Grand Theft Auto or their other franchises disappear between releases. Downloadable content makes it possible for these games to continue to maintain a presence and pull in money. Red Dead Redemption, for example, was released back in May but it received four DLC packs over the summer and fall.
