Hairspray 2 Plot Details: Zac Efron On Drugs!![]()
Hairspray 2 is a terrible idea, can we all agree? It's tempting fate to try and make yet another good movie out of a premise that barely worked in the first place, and even riskier to try and get us to spend one more minute with John Travolta in a fat suit. But John Waters, who wrote and directed the original 1988 movie along with some of the most insane movies ever made, seems to realize he's in a no-win situation. So he's come up with the most batshit insane sequel you could possibly imagine.
"Link (Zac Efron) experiments with drugs. Throughout half the movie, he has an ongoing dialogue with three pimples on his forehead.” That's just one of the plot details revealed by Marc Shaiman, the Tony-winning composer and producer of the first movie, talking to MTV today. "“People hate Tracy (Nikki Blonsky) because she doesn’t lose weight. They ask ‘Now that you’re famous, why won’t you lose weight?’. “Edna (John Travolta) loses weight, but sees her husband (Christopher Walken) lusting after fat women." It all sounds so far-fetched that it feels like Shaiman is just messing with us, but then again, he's talking about a treatment written by Waters, who once had a drag queen eat dog shit on camera. And Shaiman explained that all of Waters' ideas can't possibly make their way into the intended PG-13 rated movie. "“I don’t know how mainstream it would go if he really stuck to his ideas; it would be a real John Waters-style film,." So Zac Efron on drugs? John Travolta losing a bunch of weight and then gaining it back for Christopher Walken? Is it just too silly-- or just crazy enough to be a proper Hairspray sequel? |
