Say what you will about Matthew McConaughey and what he's done with his career, but at least he's using his rom-com-earned wealth to promote up-and-comers. His J.K. Livin production company is starting work on Exchange Student, and to write it they've picked newbie Mike Vukadinovich, who will be writing his first screenplay.
The story sounds straight-up baffling as The Hollywood Reporter describes it. It's about two exchange students who exchange themselves in opposite directions, one of them coming to the United States and the other going abroad. Not sure how these two characters know each other, how the stories intersect, or especially how the movie will be "a family comedy with wry overtones a la Wes Anderson." But maybe McConaughey is just teaching us not to underestimate him; it'll be interesting to see the results regardless.
